    Description

Lavishly illustrated with over 400 black-and-white photographs, this early out-of-print book provides an in-depth pictorial survey of antique celluloid dolls.  “With the publication of this book, new facts and information about celluloid dolls is available for the first time, but only after years of research and close examination of hundreds of dolls by the author.”
    A CENTURY OF CELLULOID DOLLS
by Shirley Buchholz, Hobby House Press, 1985.
“The author has gathered the material on all aspects of the celluloid doll and presented it here in an informative, and easy-to-read format.  The book is divided into chapters that make locating a particular type of doll easy.  All-celluloid dolls with bent legs, for instance, are found in that chapter.  There, they are subdivided into the various countries of origin, and further subdivided by manufacturer whenever possible.  The trademarks of each doll pictured is shown either on the page with the doll ore very close to it for easy reference.  Many original patents are referred to in the text, some accompanied by the original patent illustrations.  There is a section devoted to drawings of 61 different trademarks, many identified as to manufacturer and/or country of origin..  Of particular interest to collectors will be the chapters on fashion lady dolls, novelty dolls, mechanical dolls, all-celluloid dolls, and dolls, with composition bodies and celluloid heads.”
8.4” x 10.7” hardback with dust cover in very good condition.  205 pages.
