Offered is a large and scarce folio, “L’Histoire du Costume Masculin Français” from year 420 to year 1870 by Paul Louis De Giafferri, Editions Nilsson, Paris, 1927. This work describes in detail and in vivid color, the history of French masculine costume from the 5th to the 19th century. The folio has nice blue cloth folding decorative boards with ties (pictured). It contains a collection of 10 fascicules or tomes with illustrated wrappers containing each 8 pages of text and 10 loose color pochoir plates (most are pictured). Tome IV has only 9 pochoir plates (no. 10 is missing). In total, the folio contains 99 loose plates and 80 text pages. Illustrations by O. Macaire, M. Guillemot, M.T. Grandchamps, etc.

There is some age wear on the decorative boards (pictured). Three of the wrappers are detached but present (tomes I, III, X) (pictured). There is age-toning, some closed tears and some chipping and wear along the paper edges (pictured). Tome I, plate 7 has a folding mark in the middle. Interior pages and pochoirs are overall in good to very good condition (pictured). Please examine all pictures carefully.
The size of the book is 38 cm X 28 cm X 5 cm (15 in. X 11 in. X 2 in.). It is quite a heavy folio weighing 3110 grams (6.9 lbs.).
